Zumba® at Sale Festival - Sunday 19th June 2011

First of all, thanks to all those that came down to support us, we had a great day and hope you did too! The photos are here

Did you know Zumba® was created by accident?

Exercise is a great way to relieve stress and taking classes is particularly motivating. But taking a Zumba® class is one of the the most electrifying, high energy ways to burn calories while having fun.

Just in case you didn't know, Zumba® is the Latin-inspired dance-fitness program that blends red-hot international music and contagious steps to form a fitness party that is downright addictive."

Although it seems like the phenomena recently sprouted in local gyms and dance schools, the company Zumba® Fitness been around since 2001. It was accidentally created by Columbian Aerobics instructor Alberto Perez, who in the mid 90's forgot his regular music and had to improvise by using his own mix. It was the idea to let the music move you instead of counting repetitions over the music that inspired Zumba®.

Since then, it has exploded onto the work-out scene, and virtually every town in the UK now offers a selection of high quality Zumba® classes. There are many types of classes, and the quality of what is offered as well as the cost may vary.

Our advice is, if you join an on-going class, it will take a few times to catch on. We would also highly recommend looking for a class that caters for beginners when taking Zumba® for the first time. (We do, and additionally offer a pre-teach session 15 minutes before the class starts.)

Additionally, you can save money by buying a 10 Class Pass and get 2 classes for free.

Regardless of where you go, there is definitely something about the high energy Latin beat that not only moves you, but keeps the feeling going for many hours afterwards.

A GRIMSBY Zumba teacher is urging people to sign up to take part in "the biggest Zumba event ever attempted in the north".
Rachel Blood, who is organising the event, wants to raise big bucks for charity with the Zumbathon – which will see 1,000 people taking part in a two-hour Latin dance workout at the Auditorium next month.

The money raised will be split between Help For Heroes – a charity for wounded soldiers and their families – and When You Wish Upon A Star, which makes dreams come true for children with life-limiting illnesses.

"It costs £300 to send a terminally ill child to Lapland at Christmas and if we all do our bit, the money we raise can make a real difference."

Sonja Aldred, 37, of Grimsby, who goes to Zumba classes and will be taking part in the Zumbathon, said: "Zumba makes you forget all your troubles and puts you on a high, so 1,000 people doing it together is going to be amazing."

Another Zumbathon dancer Becky Gregory, 35, of Cleethorpes, said: "This is the first time I have ever really done anything for charity and I have had a great response.

"Everyone should just get there and we can make loads of money."

Local samba band – Samba Lada – who performed at November's event will be taking an even more active role and jamming along to the Zumba beats as people strut their stuff.

The event will be held on Friday, June 17, from 7pm at the Auditorium. Tickets to dance are £10 and spectators seats are £5.
